The Collaborative Doula Network

What is the Collaborative Doula Network?

The Collaborative Doula Network is a community-rooted non-profit organization created to make meaningful education, connection, and support more accessible to individuals, families, doulas, and the wider community.

We believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, inclusive, and informed support through life's many transitions. From fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum to loss, grief, caregiving, aging, and end-of-life, our goal is to create spaces where people can learn, connect, feel supported, and find community.

Through accessible classes, workshops, community programs, peer support, one-on-one and group offerings, professional education, and collaborative partnerships, the Network works to bridge gaps in care and bring people together.

We are also committed to supporting the people who support others. By creating opportunities for doulas and community care providers to learn, collaborate, share resources, build relationships, and give back, we hope to strengthen the network of care available within our communities.

At the heart of the Collaborative Doula Network is a simple belief: care is stronger when it is connected.

We are building more than programs. We are building a community where knowledge is shared, support is accessible, different experiences and perspectives are welcomed, and no one has to navigate life's biggest transitions alone.

Learn together. Support one another. Strengthen the community.

What to expect & Why Get Involved?

Your voice matters right now, not just when you become an adult.

Being part of the Youth Advisory Council is a chance to help shape real programs, projects and conversations happening in your community. You’ll work alongside other youth, Board members and community professionals to explore issues that matter to young people, develop ideas and projects, and bring recommendations directly to the Network’s Board of Directors.

Along the way, you’ll learn how a non-profit works, build leadership, communication, advocacy and teamwork skills, and gain experience that can support future school, scholarship, volunteer and career opportunities.

Some meetings might involve brainstorming a new program, talking about something youth are experiencing, meeting with a community professional, creating a resource or working together on a youth-led project or subcommittee.

You don’t need Board experience, you don’t need to know all the answers, and you don’t need to be the loudest person in the room. We’ll help you learn as you go.

Bring your perspective, your questions and the things you think adults might be missing.

You don’t have to wait until you’re older to make an impact. There’s a place for your voice here.

Youth voices belong at the table.

The Collaborative Doula Network Youth Advisory Council creates meaningful opportunities for young people ages 14–18 to help shape the programs, education, advocacy and community initiatives that affect them.

The Council is made up of three Youth Advisory Officers, each bringing their own experiences, interests and perspectives to the Network. Together, they explore issues affecting young people, develop ideas and projects, identify gaps in education and support, and bring youth perspectives and recommendations directly to the Board of Directors.

Our Youth Advisory Officers have three primary areas of focus: Wellness & Life Transitions, Education & Advocacy & Community & Engagement

These areas provide direction, but they aren't silos. Youth Advisors work together, contribute across projects and are encouraged to explore the issues that matter most to young people in their communities.

More Than Three Voices

The three Youth Advisory Officers are the core members of the Council, but they don't have to be the only young people involved.

The Council may invite other youth from the community to participate in meetings, consultations, projects, working groups or subcommittees based on their interests, experiences or the topic being explored.

A youth-led project might focus on mental health, grief and loss, sexual and reproductive health, healthy relationships, disability and accessibility, community belonging, education, advocacy or an issue young people identify themselves.

Relevant Board members, professionals and community partners may also be invited to participate when their knowledge or resources can support the work.

This allows the Youth Advisory Council to hear from many different young people while maintaining a consistent group of Youth Advisory Officers who can bring what they learn back to the Network.

Supported Leadership

The Youth Advisory Council is overseen by a Founding Board Member of The Collaborative Doula Network, who attends and supports Council meetings, projects and initiatives.

Their role is to provide mentorship, guidance and organizational support while creating space for youth members to lead, ask questions, develop ideas and make meaningful contributions. They also help connect the Youth Council with other Board members, community professionals, resources and opportunities when additional expertise or support is needed.

A Real Voice In The Network

Youth Advisory Officers aren't expected to represent every young person or have all the answers.

They're here to bring their perspectives, ask questions, challenge assumptions, explore ideas and help us listen better.

The Youth Advisory Council has a direct connection to the Board of Directors and can bring forward ideas, concerns and recommendations for the Board to consider.

Because if we're creating programs and initiatives that affect young people, young people should have a meaningful role in shaping them.
