For Doulas

2 Day Waterbirth & Gentle Birth Training with Barbara Harper

The Collaborative Doula Collective, in partnership with the Waterbirth Coalition of Canada, is honoured to host a 2-Day Waterbirth & Gentle Birth Training led by internationally recognized educator and pioneer Barbara Harper.

This in-person training is designed for OBs, midwives, nurses, doulas, hospital teams, and allied birth and wellness professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of waterbirth and gentle, physiological birth practices through an evidence-informed, safety-focused, and collaborative lens.

  • About the Facilitator

Barbara Harper is the Founder and Director of Waterbirth International and has spent over 40 years advancing safe, respectful, and evidence-based waterbirth practices worldwide. She has trained more than 25,000 birth professionals across 80+ countries, working closely with hospitals, birth centres, and community-based providers to develop protocols that honour both clinical safety and physiological birth.

Her teaching is grounded in research, clinical experience, and a deep respect for the birthing person–baby dyad, making this training valuable across a wide range of care settings. What This Training Covers

Over two full days, participants will explore:

    • The physiology of labour and birth in water

    • Safety considerations, inclusion criteria, and contraindications

    • Evidence-based best practices for water-supported and gentle birth

    • Neonatal transition and protection during waterbirth

    • Practical considerations for hospital, birth centre, and community environments

    • Interdisciplinary collaboration and shared understanding of roles

This training supports both clinical knowledge and practical application, while creating space for discussion, questions, and shared learning across disciplines.

    Why This Training Matters

Waterbirth and gentle birth are not simply techniques—they reflect a broader commitment to informed choice, respectful care, and physiological support. When care providers learn together, understand one another’s perspectives, and build relationships, families benefit from more cohesive and confident care.

This training intentionally brings providers together to strengthen local and regional collaboration, encourage thoughtful dialogue, and support consistent, evidence-based approaches to water-supported birth.
